These parks offer quieter trails, unique activities, and a chance to see a different side of the Shenandoah Valley. Whether you’re looking for a lakeside picnic, a waterfall hike, or a peaceful morning on the river, these parks are well worth a visit.
Here are a few of our favorite nearby state parks, complete with travel times, must-see spots, and food stops to keep you fueled.

One of Virginia’s newest state parks, Seven Bends State Park in Woodstock is named for the meandering bends of the North Fork of the Shenandoah River. It’s a haven for hiking, fishing, kayaking, and birdwatching.

If you love river views, this park is a gem. Shenandoah River State Park near Bentonville offers 24 miles of hiking and biking trails and over 5 miles of shoreline along the South Fork of the Shenandoah.

A little further out, but absolutely worth the trip, is Natural Bridge State Park. This park is home to the famous 215-foot-tall limestone arch that was once owned by Thomas Jefferson and considered one of the “wonders of the natural world.”

If you’re looking for rolling meadows, pastoral views, and wide-open skies, Sky Meadows State Park near Delaplane is a must. It’s especially stunning in spring and fall. Plus - if you're heading from Northern Virginia or DC, you can make this as a great pit stop on your way to New Market or on your way home.
